How Distance Affect Volume
Science: Year 3 & 4 National Curriculum, topic 9.3.2
How Distance Affect Volume
The distance from the sound source affects how loud the sound is.

Close to the sound
- When you are close to the source of a sound, the vibrations don't have far to travel to reach your eardrum.
- The vibrations are still strong when they reach your eardrum.

Far away from the sound
- The further away from the source of the sound, the quieter the sound becomes.
- The sound is quieter because the sound vibrations spread out and become weaker as they travel further.

Weaker vibrations are quieter
- Vibrations get weaker the further they travel.
- Weaker vibrations are harder to hear.
