Coastal Management in Holderness
Holderness has reduced the risk or erosion at Mappleton by introducing a £2 million coastal management scheme in 1991. The scheme involved two hard engineering strategies:

Rock groynes
- The rock groynes have stopped beach material being moved south from Mappleton along the coast.

Rock armour
- Rock armour was placed at the foot of the cliffs. This helped restrict the impact of the crashing waves.
