Irregular Être Verbs
There are five irregular verbs that use 'être' in the perfect tense. These verbs have irregular past participles. Two of these irregulars follow the same pattern as 'venir'.
Venir - to come
- Je suis venu(e) - I came.
- Tu es venu(e) - you (singular) came.
- Il/elle/on est venu(e) - he/she/one came.
- Nous sommes venu(e)s - we came.
- Vous êtes venu(e)(s) - you (plural/formal) came.
- Ils/elles sont venu(e)s - they came.
Devenir - to become
- Je suis devenu(e) - I became.
- Tu es devenu(e) - you (singular) became.
- Il/elle/on est devenu(e) - he/she/one became.
- Nous sommes devenu(e)s - we became.
- Vous êtes devenu(e)(s) - you (plural/formal) became.
- Ils/elles sont devenu(e)s - they became.
Revenir - to come back
- Je suis revenu(e) - I came back.
- Tu es revenu(e) - you (singular) came back.
- Il/elle/one est revenu(e) - he/she/one came back.
- Nous sommes revenu(e)s - we came back.
- Vous êtes revenu(e)(s) - you (plural/formal) came back.
- Ils/elles sont revenu(e)s - they came back.
'Naître' and 'Mourir'
'Naître' and 'mourir' have irregular past participles. They both use 'être' to form the perfect tense.
Naître - to be born
- Je suis né(e) - I was born.
- Tu es né(e) - you (singular) were born.
- Il/elle/on est né(e) - he/she/one was born.
- Nous sommes né(e)s - we were born.
- Vous êtes né(e)(s) - you (plural/formal) were born.
- Ils/elles sont né(e)s - they were born.
Mourir - to die
- Je suis mort(e) - I died.
- Tu es mort(e) - you (singular) died.
- Il/elle/on est mort(e) - he/she/one died.
- Nous sommes mort(e)s - we died.
- Vous êtes mort(e)(s) - you (plural/formal) died.
- Ils/elles sont mort(e)s - they died.
