Computer Science: OCR GCSE, topic 1.6.4
The Digital Divide
The digital divide is an important ethical issue in today's society, and the divide is growing.

What is the digital divide?
- Not everyone has access to computers and the Internet.
- Some people have access to those technologies but are unable to use them effectively.
- For example, because of a disability or advanced age.
- Access to technology can impact an individual's education, welfare and career opportunities.

Education and career
- Those without access to technology do not have access to free educational websites, and often cannot afford to pay for formal education.
- The information they encounter is usually out of date, biased and very limited.
- Those who have access to technology can learn new skills, enrol in online courses, and connect with different people.
