Fluid Flow
Applied Science: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma, topic 4.11.1
Fluid Flow
Fluid dynamics is the study of how gases and liquids move through and around objects.

Streamline flow
- Streamline flow is the smooth flow of fluid in layers that do not mix.

Turbulent flow
- Turbulent flow, or turbulence, consists of eddies and swirls that mix layers of fluid together.
- Turbulent flow is caused by two factors:
- Fluids moving past obstructions.
- Fluids travelling at high speeds.

Layers in streamline flow
- When fluid flow is streamline, the layers of fluid flow without mixing.
- When fluid flow is turbulent, the drag both between adjacent layers of fluid and between the fluid and its surroundings forms swirls and eddies.
