Capacitance

Physics: AQA A Level, topic 7.4.1

Capacitance

Capacitors are devices which can be used as a store of charge.

Capacitors

Capacitors

  • A capacitor stores charge by having two charged plates which are held apart.
  • These plates have a potential difference between them.
  • The capacitance of an object can be thought of as the amount of charge it is storing per unit voltage.
Calculation

Calculation

  • The equation for capacitance is:
  • Capacitance = charge stored ÷ voltage
  • C=QVC=\frac{Q}{V}
