Identifying your Audience
Think about your audience when planning your writing.

Who are you writing to?
- You need to think about who will read your writing when you plan it.
- Different people like different things and react in different ways.

Your best friend
- If you are writing for your best friend, they will probably use the same language as you do.
- So you might not have to think too much about the words you use!

Old people
- Your grandfather might not understand all the words you use.
- For example, if you write 'that’s wicked', your grandfather might think you mean 'evil'.
- But you really meant 'cool'!
- Use more formal words and fewer chatty or slang words.
- This will help them understand your writing better.

A foreigner
- If you are talking to someone who is learning to speak English, you should:
- Use clear language.
- Use simple sentences.
- This will help them not to get confused.
