Iron core

  • Both of the coils are wound around an iron core.

Transformer Equation

The potential difference across the primary coil (Vp) divided by potential difference across the secondary coil (Vs) is equal to the number of turns on the primary coil (Np) divided by the number of turns on the secondary coil (Ns).

Equation

  • If there are four times as many turns on the secondary coil as on the primary coil, then the voltage output on the secondary coil will be four times the input voltage.
