Section 6 Plot
This is the final section in Of Mice and Men. George kills Lennie. He believes this is mercy compared to what Curley would do.

Lennie waits for George
- Lennie waits for George at “the deep green pool of the Salinas River”, which is described in almost the same way as it was in Section 1, except this time there is a much more tense atmosphere as Lennie awaits his fate.

Lennie's vision of Aunt Clara
- He has a vision of his Aunt Clara, who tells him off for the trouble he has gotten himself into: “I tol' you, 'Min' George because he's such a nice fella an' good to you.' But you don't never take no care. You do bad things.”

Lennie's vision of a giant rabbit
- Lennie then sees a vision of a giant rabbit which tells him that George is going to leave him all on his own: “He gonna leave you, ya crazy bastard. He gonna leave ya all alone. He gonna leave ya, crazy bastard.”

George comforts Lennie
- George arrives and comforts Lennie by once again telling him about their dream, and how he will still get to “tend the rabbits.”
- He then asks Lennie to turn around and look into the distance so he “can almost see” their dream farm.

George shoots Lennie
- As Lennie has his back to George, George shoots him in the back of the head and kills him.

Slim comforts George
- Slim arrives first and sees what has happened.
- He tells George that he had no choice but to kill Lennie: "You hadda, George. I swear you hadda. Come on with me."
