Multiplication & Division in your Head
Use the knowledge you have already to multiply and divide in your head.
21 × 8
- 21 × 8 can be broken down into two easier calculations by partitioning 21.
- 20 × 8 = 160
- 1 × 8 = 8
- Finally, add the two answers.
- 21 × 8 = 160 + 8 = 168
Division using times tables
- 144 ÷ 12 = 12
- You can work this out using your 12 times table.
- 360 ÷ 4 = 90
- You know that 36 ÷ 4 = 9 from you 4 times table.
- So 360 ÷ 4 = 9 × 10 = 90
