Atom Economy
Chemistry: AQA A Level, topic 1.2.8
Reaction Pathways
Reaction pathways (ways reactions happen) with high atom economies (% of useful products made) are good for two reasons:

Cost
- Using the smallest possible amount of reactants saves money.

Waste
- A higher atom economy means that less waste is produced.
Test yourself on Atom Economy
Which term is used to describe the amount of the reactants that end up as useful products?
What figures do you need to know to calculate the atom economy of a reaction?
The atom economy of a reaction is 50%. The Mr of the desired products is 6. What is the Mr of all reactants?
