MARGE
CPD: MARGE Model for Learning (by Nimish Lad), topic 1.2.1
MARGE
Efficient learning and retention depends on coordinated brain activity in a multitude of brain regions.

A whole-brained approach
- Any model which attempts to describe the process of learning needs to consider it as a whole-brain process and understand that efficient learning and retention needs coordination between different parts of the brain, which is clearly shown by neuroscience.

MARGE
- The five statements summarised at the end of the key paragraphs in the last section of this chapter relate to the letters in the acronym of MARGE, bridging the gap between neuroscience and cognitive science, allowing us to begin to discuss how this can affect classroom practice.

Motivate
- The need for motivation to be in place to engage the reward circuit.

Attend
- To ensure the prefrontal cortex is focussing on the right sensory input.

Relate
- Make links between new knowledge and prior knowledge.

Generate
- Reactivating prior knowledge and forging new links.

Evaluate
- Checking that the knowledge gained is correct, embedded in long-term memory and can be applied to novel situations.
