  • Numbers in standard form always have:
    • One digit before the decimal point (NOT 0).
    • A ×104 part (the 4 can be any positive or negative number).

  • You can convert 45,000 into standard form by:
    • Counting how many jumps the decimal point makes to the left until there is one digit before the decimal point (4 jumps).
    • Multiplying 4.5 by 104 → 4.5 × 104
