Defining Your Values & Accepting Judgement
Defining Your Values & Accepting Judgement
Defining Your Values & Accepting Judgement
It is really important to define your values, what is important to you and what your beliefs are.

Your behaviour defines you
Your behaviour defines you
- How you deal with key situations, both in terms of the decisions you make and how you make them, will define you, your tenure and how you are perceived.
- Moral dilemmas can test us to the full.

Accept judgement
Accept judgement
- You need to accept that people will judge you.
- From the very first moment someone meets you, you will be judged.
- People will form a view as to the type of leader you are. It is really important that you stay true to yourself and do not allow anyone else to define who you are.
- It is really easy to allow someone’s first impression of you to form a narrative about you and to fall into a mould that someone else is trying to craft.
- Do not let that happen. Be your own person. Be you.

Plan how to run your department
Plan how to run your department
- Equally, make sure that you have a plan for how you want to lead and run your department, area of the school or school itself.
- Always keep firmly at the forefront of your mind what your moral purpose is and, if you believe you are acting for the greater good or doing the right thing, do not be derailed by others.

Dealing with negativity at work
Dealing with negativity at work
- Where you do encounter negativity, do not allow this to define you or take over.
- If you allow negativity to take hold of you, it will consume and paralyse you. It will cause you to make irrational, potentially rushed decisions.
- It's far better to turn negatives into positives and always be solution-focused.
- When something does go wrong learn from it. Think long and hard about why situation X did not go in your favour and consider carefully what the key take-homes are.
