- Victor refutes this, but tells Alphonse he must go to England before their marriage.

- They travel through Europe together until they arrive in London.

- Victor and Clerval travel from England to Scotland to visit an old friend.
- Victor begins collecting his materials, but worries that he has not started his task.
- He asks Clerval to leave him to tour Scotland alone and Clerval eventually agrees.

- Victor travels to a remote island in the Orkneys to complete his task.
- He hires a hut and sets up a place to begin work.
- He often feels sickened by what he is doing, but looks forward to completing the task and being free of the Monster.

Whilst working on the new creation one night, Victor becomes scared of what it may do once he brings it to life.

- Victor worries that the female creature might not want to be the Monster's companion and imagines what would happen if they were to mate.
- The sight of the Monster through the window makes Victor question what he is doing and he tears the female creature to pieces.
- The Monster returns in a fury and vows revenge on Victor, swearing that he will be with him on his wedding night.

- Victor receives a letter from Clerval, asking him to rejoin him in Perth.
- First, Victor sails out into the ocean one night and throws the remains of the female creature and his chemical instruments into the water.

- Victor falls asleep in his boat.
- When he wakes up, the wind is very strong and he is lost.
- Victor manages to construct a sail and steers himself to shore.
- When he lands, the people are unfriendly and he realises he is in Ireland.
- The local people take Victor to Mr Kirwin, a magistrate.
