Complete the Grid - Reflection Example

Reflection

In reflection questions, you may be asked to follow a pattern. This will require you to think about where the reflection line is as this will NOT be drawn for you.

Question

Does image A, B, C or D complete the grid?

Start with the first sequence

The pattern in the first sequence is the same as the pattern used to complete the grid.

Look for patterns in lines ❌

Look for patterns in circles ❌

Look for patterns in arrows ✅

The pattern in this sequence is a horizontal reflection of the image.

Confirm the pattern for third sequence

We need to confirm that the pattern in the third sequence is the same as the pattern in the first sequence.

Confirm the pattern ✅

We see that the third sequence follows the same pattern as the first sequence.

Consider the second sequence

Now we use the pattern of reflection to work out what would complete the grid.

Reflect the central image

Reflecting the central image horizontally will allow us to work backwards to get the initial image in the sequence.

Compare with answers

Shape B is the correct answer as it is a horizontal reflection of the central image.
