Full Stops
English Language: KS3, topic 2.1.1
Full Stops
Full stops place a strong boundary around an idea. Full stops are important because they signal that one idea is over.

Where to use full stops
- Full stops can be used at the end of sentences that are:
- Statements.
- Commands.
- A sentence needs to have a main clause that makes sense on its own.
- A sentence does NOT need further information to complete its meaning.

Separating main clauses
- You should use a full stop when separating two main clauses.
- E.g. Seneca is fun. I like cookies.

Joining main clauses
- Sometimes we want to join two main clauses together.
- You can join two main clauses together using a coordinating conjunction (e.g. and, but, so, for).
- E.g. Seneca is fun and I like cookies.
- You would usually place a comma before the conjunction if the clauses are reasonably long.
