The Sudetenland
Chamberlain and Hitler agreed that Germany could have the Sudetenland (in Czechoslovakia) if they promised not to take any more land.

The Sudetenland
- As Hitler and the Nazis grew in power, the British Prime Minister Chamberlain flew to meet Hitler in 1938.
- They had a conference and decided that Hitler could have the area of the Sudetenland (in Czechoslovakia) if he promised not to take any more land.

Appeasement
- Hitler signed to agree to this and this policy was known as appeasement.
- Chamberlain thought he had secured ‘peace in our time’.
- As by giving Hitler land he wanted in Czechoslovakia he would be pleased and not want any more.

Avoiding war
- Chamberlain knew that peace was important to the British people who didn’t want to have another world war.
- The First World War hadn’t been that long ago and many people remembered the horrors of it.
