Specialist Techniques & Processes
Design & Technology: AQA GCSE, topic 7.11.1
Specialist Techniques and Processes
You will need to decide if you need to use a specialist technique or processes if your design is complex or your workspace does not have that piece of equipment.

Specialist processes
- You will need to decide if you need to use a specialist technique or processes if your design is complex or your workspace does not have that piece of equipment.
- For example if you need to join metal together by welding then this would be a specialist process.

Specialist techniques
- First check your design and see is there another way of doing this task.
- Speak to local schools or companies to gain advice on the task.
- Ensure your teacher is aware of you contacting outside companies as this needs documenting on your NEA/coursework.

Surface finishes
- Products may require a finish adding to it.
- This will be to improve the function or the aesthetics (look) of the product.
- For example a garden shed would be painted or stained to make it look nice but also to waterproof the wood and make it last longer.
- Examples of finishes are found in the next two concept modules.
