Alloying Elements
Design & Technology: AQA GCSE, topic 4.5.2
Alloying Elements
Alloying elements are added to the base metal to modify its properties.

Transition metals
- Transition metals are added to enhance strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance.
- Transition metals include elements like chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and tungsten.

Non-metallic elements
- Non-metallic elements can be added to improve hardness, wear resistance, and heat treatment response.
- Non-metallic elements include elements like carbon, nitrogen, and boron.

Precious metals
- Precious metals can be alloyed with other metals to create alloys with unique properties.
- Precious metals include elements like gold, silver, and platinum.
