# Questions for MARGE

CPD: MARGE Model for Learning (by Nimish Lad), topic 1.3.2

## Questions on the MARGE Model

The slides below highlight a series of questions that could be used to guide a conversation about the ideas included in MARGE.

### Motivate

- Do students:
 - Grasp the narrative of repeating themes within a subject?
 - Understand why they are being taught what they are being taught, and how it links to the world around them?
 - Show curiosity in what is being taught?
 - Have opportunities to share their thoughts on what they are learning?

### Attend

- Are students aware of:
 - What they need to focus their attention on in each lesson?
 - How what they are learning links to what they already know?
 - How what they are learning forms part of a bigger process of what they are learning within the subject?

### Relate

![Relate](https://image-v2.cdn.app.senecalearning.com/2018-05/c688edf9-4ffd-41ba-81e5-116f1168f4f6/shutterstock_525113008.jpg)

- Are students guided to:
 - Use a variety of strategies to relate what they are being taught to what they already know?
 - Learn using a variety of sources including visual imagery and schematic representations?
 - Compare, contrast and categorise what they know with what they are being taught?

### Generate

![Generate](https://image-v2.cdn.app.senecalearning.com/2018-08/5183362f-77f2-4c0b-89e4-48756fd91f6a/van-de-graff-generator-electricity-.jpg)

- Do students have opportunities to:
 - Share what they have learned with their peers and at home?
 - Use what they already know to form new ideas?
 - Apply what they have just learned in a different context?
 - Link knowledge through self-testing using the three Cs?
 - Revisit learning after a period of time to check they have remembered it?

### Evaluate

- Are students aware of how to:
 - Interleave topics and use spaced practice to evaluate the strength of concepts in their long-term memory?
 - Avoid potential pitfalls, such as the illusion of knowing?
 - Construct flashcards and other tools to effectively test the strength of learning?
