# Successes of the League of Nations

History: KS3, topic 18.4.2

## Successes of the League of Nations

The League did help solve some international issues. Their greatest success was in the humanitarian field.

### The Commission for Refugees

- Helped to return refugees home (once a conflict had ended) and improve the camps in which they stayed. 
- This was successful in countries such as Russia and Greece when people fled their homes because of conflict within their own countries.

### Health Committee

- This was successful because it helped to cure diseases internationally.
  - E.g. malaria.
- The Committee also educated people across the world on how to prevent the disease from spreading and how to be hygienic.
  - E.g. washing your hands.

### The Slavery Commission

- This was particularly successful in stopping slavery in countries in Africa. 
- In Sierra Leone, 200,000 people were set free.

### International Labour Organisation

- This Organisation helped to promote better working conditions across the world.
- One major success was getting 77 countries to introduce a minimum standard of wages in their country.
