They transport deoxygenated (contains no oxygen) blood (apart from the pulmonary vein) from the organs back to the heart. They are different to arteries because: ### Thinner walls than arteries ![Thinner walls than arteries](https://image-v2.cdn.app.senecalearning.com/courseImages/biology/2.3.1%20-%20Blood%20vessels/belly-2473_640-min.jpg) - The walls are thinner than those found in the arteries as the blood is at a lower pressure. ### Wider cross section than arteries ![Wider cross section than arteries](https://image-v2.cdn.app.senecalearning.com/courseImages/biology/2.3.1%20-%20Blood%20vessels/tube-945487_640-min.jpg) - Low pressure hinders blood flow.
