Edexcel iGCSE English Language B is a core qualification in international British schools, designed to develop students’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills for academic success and real-world communication. Suitable for learners aged 14–16, the course emphasises clarity of expression, critical reading and purposeful writing across a range of text types.

Students must sit a mandatory written examination called Component 1. This is a 3-hour exam with a total of 100 marks. Section A consists of short- and long- answers related to previously unseen texts. Section B is a directed writing task based on the ideas of the source texts. Section C is a single writing task from a choice of discursive, narrative or descriptive.
Students can also take an optional spoken language endorsement. It is an oral examination of 10 minutes duration, internally assessed.
The exam series is offered in June and November.
